Plumbing Tips
Every plumbing fixture in your home should
have a shutoff valve. Make sure that everyone in your family knows how to
use the shutoff valve at the fixture and knows how to turn off your homes
main water shutoff valve.
If you have a hard time finding out where your
toilet is leaking, try adding some food coloring to the tank. This should
quickly reveal where the leak is coming from.
Be careful when using chemical drain cleaners
in a sink filled with water. These chemicals are very harsh and dangerous.
If they fail to clear the clog, you will be left with a sink full of toxic
chemicals. Never use a plunger after using drain cleaner and tell your
plumber what you used.
To prevent clogged drains in your kitchen,
never pour grease or coffee grounds down the drain.
Make sure your plumber is bonded and insured
to protect your property.
Even self cleaning water heaters need
maintenance. They can accumulate debris on the bottom of the tank which
can promote rusting. Drain the tank once or twice a year to clear the
debris. If your tank does not have a drain pan underneath it, have your
plumbing contractor install one.
